The DD15 from Navico is a strong and compact direct drive autopilot unit for sailboats between 30 to 45ft.
Built for continuous 24-hour operation, the powerful unit boasts a maximum output torque of 150kg per metre.
A combination of the unit’s flat wound (pancake) electric motor with efficient planetary and spur gearbox, results in an extremely efficient drive unit to keep the battery charging time to the minimum.
The drive can be used on boats from 30 to 45 feet l.o.a. (or up to 150 kgm rudder torque) equipped with a mechanical steering system that can be back driven. The electromechanical clutch enables the direct drive to be back driven with the force of just a fingertip, allowing the mechanical steering to remain just as sensitive as without the drive unit attached.
The DD15 is supplied with the Simrad RF300 Rudder Feedback unit (with transmission link and 10 metres (30 feet) of cable), transforming the angular travel of the rudder to a digital signal read by the autopilot steering computer.
